Charles and Mary Cole Scholarship

Charles and Mary Cole Scholarship

Charles and Mary Cole were part of “The Greatest Generation” who served in and lived through WWII, then worked hard and lived frugally to support their family and contribute to their community. Charles Cole worked in higher education as a professor, dean, provost, and college president. He testified before Congress in support of federal student loans and personally oversaw a scholarship program for children of NYC hotel employees for over 50 years. Mary Cole raised four daughters then returned to the work force in her late 50’s to direct county centers for senior citizens. She volunteered in her church and community, tutored in an elementary school, advocated for migrant workers, and in her 80’s served on two medical mission trips to Central America. Charles and Mary stressed the importance of education and community service.
