Cecil Pride Scholarship
“Welcome Applicants!
First, I want to say how proud I am of each and every one of you. STEM is hard! Beyond the late nights of cramming for finals, you’ll be entering a field with unique challenges that are rapidly evolving. The internet was barely a teenager when I started classes at Shawnee Community College in 1996. I now have a Masters in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University, and in that time I’ve seen the invention of social media, self driving cars, and seven generations of Nintendo gaming consoles. Who knows what wonders await the next generation of STEM?
Secondly, I want to speak to the LGBTQIA+ community. Over the years, I have meet some amazing LGBTQIA+ professionals, cowokers, teachers, and friends that have left lasting impacts on my life and career. I established this scholarship in hopes that I can affirm that we welcome you. Diversity and Inclusion are the potential and kinetic energies of STEM. Without both, sustainable momentum is not possible. You are our future and we have your backs.”

Impact
The purpose of the Cecil Pride Scholarship is to provide a scholarship each academic year to a student who identifies as LGBTQIA+ with preference to a student enrolled in a STEM program of study. This fund was established with donations from a Cecil County resident, Eric George.
